Helping you to stay confident

Ventilation and smoke-control systems play a critical role in life safety, and regulators in the UK, the EU, and the USA expect ducting to meet strict fire-performance and airflow standards. Building owners, installers, and designers must ensure that every component supports safe evacuation, limits the movement of smoke, and delivers consistent, hygienic air distribution. Elephant Duct provides a high-grade solution that combines reliable fire-reaction performance, excellent airtightness, and clean-air credentials, helping duty holders meet both fire-safety and ventilation requirements across these major regulatory frameworks.

United Kingdom

Fire-safety responsibilities arise from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, while Building Regulations Approved Documents B and F set the performance expectations for fire-resistant ductwork and effective ventilation. Standards such as BS EN 1366-1 and BS EN 13501-3 define fire-resistance and classification, and CIBSE guidance along with BS EN 16798 supports ventilation design and indoor-air-quality targets. Using ducting with strong fire-reaction ratings, dependable insulation, stable mechanical performance, and verified airtightness makes it far easier to satisfy these combined obligations.

Elephant Duct’s high-performance flexible hose achieves strong airtightness in line with EN 12237 and EN 12599 classifications, supporting efficient, compliant ventilation systems. Its hygienic, anti-microbial construction helps limit bacterial build-up, which contributes directly to indoor-air-quality objectives and supports safe system operation.

European Union

Across the EU, the Construction Products Regulation requires that products used in fire-safety systems be CE marked and declared in accordance with harmonised standards. Fire-resistant ductwork is typically tested under EN 1366-1 and EN 1366-8 and classified to EN 13501-3. Ventilation performance and commissioning commonly follow EN 16798 and EN 12599.

Elephant Duct’s flame-retardant construction supports strong reaction-to-fire performance, aiding compliance with EU fire-classification requirements. Its insulated, reinforced structure maintains form and stability under elevated temperatures while also delivering the airflow consistency expected in higher-grade ventilation systems.

United States

In the US, fire-safety expectations for ventilation systems are shaped by the International Building Code and NFPA standards, particularly NFPA 90A for ventilation systems and NFPA 92 for smoke control. Fire-resistant components often need to be listed and labelled to relevant UL standards. Ventilation performance and energy efficiency are generally guided by ASHRAE 62.1 and ASHRAE 90.1.

Elephant Duct’s flame-retardant materials support systems designed to satisfy NFPA-aligned safety requirements. Its dependable airtightness reduces leakage and helps ensure that designed airflow rates are actually delivered, supporting compliance with ASHRAE 62.1 and contributing to energy-efficient performance under ASHRAE 90.1.

Why choose us?

  • Combines fire safety and hygiene: the anti-microbial internal surface helps maintain clean air and supports flame-retardant performance, contributing to safer, more hygienic ventilation systems.

  • Maintains structural and thermal stability: the insulated, closed-cell construction preserves thermal resistance and resists distortion under high temperatures, supporting reliable operation in demanding conditions.

  • Offers excellent airtightness: its low-leakage design supports energy-efficient performance and helps ventilation systems meet performance-based airflow requirements.

  • Built for ease of installation: its flexible, reinforced structure and simple, tool-friendly assembly make fitting quick, consistent, and reliable across a wide range of applications.

  • Awards credits: under Healthy Buildings schemes like BREEAM, FitWel, WELL, and LEED, you can support sustainability efforts whilst maximising safety and compliance.
